Subject: Cybermages Group: Professions Related Subjects: N/A Data: The following is an excerpt from 'The Encyclopedia Of Magic' which is available for full access from the Central Library. 'Chapter 69 - Cybermages There is a group of technocrats that have managed to blur the boundaries between science and magic to an extent not seen since the Dark Ages. These Cybermages use a mixture of conjuring and cybernetic implants to achieve their so-called magical effects. They can apparently harness the power of the elements, producing violent attacks using rocks, fire, ice, lightning, acid and even magma. They can also create walls of fire around their bodies to protect themselves and across the exits of rooms to fend off attackers. By injecting themselves or others they can either increase or decrease a being's strength and dexterity. They can also attempt to boost spell-casting abilities with a surge of power. To defend themselves, Cybermages can spray a protective mist of armor around their bodies, and blind opponents, rendering them defenseless. Perhaps the most impressive of a Cybermage's skills is the ability to bend the space continuum to teleport to other beings and summon beings to themselves. Some locations have protection which renders these powers useless however. There are three distinct groups within the Cybermages. There are the Dynes, who are primarily interested in manipulating large amounts of energy and motion, the Sydai, who reinforce the structure of reality, and the Echaeons, who attempt to alter reality and bring things from elsewhere. These beings should not be treated as true magicians however, and hence we shall not use more of these pages to document their ways and powers.' --[ /cmds/shell/help ]-------------------------------------------------------- Usage: help help help index The help command is used for accessing the majority of information on StarMUD. Introduction There are a number of different professions to join here, each with different powers and abilities. 2. Joining A Profession To join a profession, you must first find its HQ, and then 'join'. Some HQs are more easily found than others. Hints are to be found in the individual profession help files, or you can ask for hints from other players. The first time you join a prof, it is free. But if you quit a profession you will lose some skills (and commands) related to that profession. You may change professions ONCE and ONCE ONLY. You may not change professions after 500 eval. If you have any general questions about each prof, you can ask other players, or you may mail the prof head, who may or may not reply. 3. Professions The current professions of StarMUD are: CAVALIERS CONVICTS CYBERMAGES CYBERMERCS HYVE MARINES MARTIALISTS PSIONICISTS SCIENTISTS Information on these professions and any available subprofs can be obtained by calling up the appropriate data file. These can be found by using the 'help prof' and 'help prof ' commands. 4. Proflevel All members of a profession are given a PROFLEVEL. This is dependent on a character's eval. Proflevel can affect the commands available to a player and the extent to which they can take advantage of the equipment available to their profession. 5. Profession Leader All professions should have a PROFLEADER. The leader is usually voted for and has a number of unique commands at their disposal. They can order items and are the main point of liaison between profession members and the Immortals when changes to the profession are desired. 6. Subprofs Within most professions, it is possible to concentrate on learning certain skills at the expense of others. In this way a character can become more exactly defined and expert at a number of tasks. See the relevant profession files for more information. 7. Version Control updated by Antisocial 5th September 2007 --[ /doc/help/general/subprofs ]---------------------------------------------- Subject: Subprofs Group: Subprofs Related Subjects: Professions Data: Each profession has secondary, subprofessions which players can join to gain additional benefits. It is essentially a way to further specialize your character into a profession. You can leave a subprofession twice and at any eval, however there are some subprofessions you may not leave due to certain enhancements and the nature of the subprofession. Available subprofs: (those marked with an asterisk are being worked on) Cavaliers: knight_rose, knight_sword, knight_lance knight_axe, knight_shield, knight_brose Convicts: rats, nightblades, thugs, *dealers, *fences Cybermages: dynes, sydai, echaeons Cybermercs: trackers, cyborgs, impalerz Hyve: none Marines: neomarines, crimson dragons, recon Martialists: linkuei, shaolin, yokozuna, samurai, *yakuza Psionicists: wraiths, serpentis, doloris, *imprimis, *quietus, *headbangers Scientists: paramedics, euthanatos, *chemists, *biologists, *physicists There may not be help files available for all subprofs, if you wish to write one, please do so and mail it to Ravnos.
